It allows us to achieve and maintain patient health as part of a whole system of evaluation and treatment.
It was founded in 1860’s by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still. He was a medical doctor and became disillusioned with the traditional medicine after losing his wife and three children to spinal meningitis. He began studying the relationship between musculoskeletal system and disease. Osteopathic medicine is founded on the principal that all body systems are interrelated and dependent upon each other for good health.
It is helpful for people of all ages and backgrounds. It works really well for musculoskeletal problems, such as lower back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain etc. It can decrease pain and increase overall mobility. In addition, it can be helpful for patients with asthma, sinus disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome, headache, etc.
When appropriate, it can complement or even replace drugs and surgery.
